When a talented but shy Chinese student wins a scholarship to attend the University of Southern California, he discovers a different side of America when he lands a job as the building manager of Paradise Apartments in South Central Los Angeles.

Despite his dreams to become an architect, his efforts to renovate Paradise lead to his moral decline, until life takes a twist and jolts him back into reality.
