Gayla is passionate about stories that place everyday people in extraordinary situations of our society. Her research into the characters, settings, and struggles are in-depth, whether she’s writing sci-fis, dramas, comedies, thrillers, or period pieces. Her strong female characters are multi-dimensional women: smart, resourceful, and brave.
Gayla's screen plays have won awards and ranked among the top 1% to 5% in screenwriting competitions. Two of her feature scripts made the finals for Sundance Writers’ Lab. CAA gave two of her features scripts “Recommends.” Three of her feature screenplays are optioned. She participated in the Squaw Valley Writers’ Program and earned a feature screening writing certificate from UCLA. She has more than a dozen screenplays in various stages of development.

Gayla often stays engaged with her projects as a producer and creative collaborator, bringing her project management expertise to producing films. She specializes in change management, social change, and policy formulation as President of KH Consulting Group.

She’s written and produced three award-winning short films that have screened at more than 50 festivals. Her short SLAP established Gayla as a forward-thinker and social commentator through comedy. SLAP garnered awards as “Best of the Fest,” “Audiences Awards,” and “Experimental Film” at festivals and special screenings, including Tribeca’s American Now+Here tour.

Gayla's active in Northwestern University Entertainment Alliance (NUEA), University of Virginia Entertainment Los Angeles, Women in Film, and Film Independent; she also judges screenwriting and film festival entries.
